A Parsimonious Method to Sample Households

Many epidemiological surveys are based on sampling dwellings. Traditionally this is done by arduous traditional survey methods, but an alternative method has been evaluated based on satellite images available through Google Earth. These images can be exported into geographical and then statistical software.[1] Ninety-five percent of structures identified as dwellings were indeed homes and the sample contained the expected demographic profile for Lilongwe, Malawi where the survey was conducted.
